The Lee County Attorney has the following responsibilities:
- Representing the state in prosecuting misdemeanor criminal cases
- Working with law enforcement officers in the investigation of criminal cases
- Providing legal advice to the Commissioners Court and to other elected officials
- Bringing civil enforcement actions on behalf of the state or county

Also, because Lee County does not have a dedicated “district attorney,” the County Attorney represents the State in district courts by:
- Representing the state in prosecuting felony criminal cases
- Presenting cases to the grand jury
- Representing victims of violence in protective orders
- Representing the state in Child Protective Services cases
